Clinic Update: Nurse Practitioner Funding Model (NL)

Important information for patients of Parallel Health

April 6, 2026

Dear Parallel Health Patients,
You may have seen recent updates regarding the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador’s new funding model for Nurse Practitioner (NP) services. This initiative is intended to expand access to publicly funded primary care and reduce out-of-pocket costs for patients.
We support efforts that improve access to care across the province. At the same time, it’s important to clarify how this current pilot applies.
At present, the program is structured to allow individual Nurse Practitioners to enter into service agreements directly with the government. Clinics, such as Parallel Health, are not included in this model.
What this means for you:
Your care at Parallel Health remains unchanged. You can continue to book appointments, access our team, and receive timely follow-up through our private care model.
If you prefer to access publicly funded options, we want to make sure you have the information to do so.
If you do not currently have a primary care provider, the first step is to register with Patient Connect NL, the province’s centralized registry. This system helps match patients with available family doctors or nurse practitioners as capacity becomes available.
Registration does not guarantee immediate placement, but it ensures you are in the queue for attachment as new opportunities open.
Below is a list of publicly funded services that may be available to you while you wait for placement.
Thank you for choosing Parallel Health and for trusting us with your care. If you have questions about your options, our team is here to help.
Sincerely,
The Team at Parallel Health
